Neurodivergent Speech Therapist in Kent - Jamie Louise Hollis - ADHD SLT

Hey! I'm ADHD SLT - also known as Jamie (She/Her) I am a neurodivergent-affirming speech and language therapist in herne bay, kent.

I'm ADHD SLT

Hello! My name is Jamie. As a Neurodivergent Speech Therapist in Kent, I provide specialist speech and language therapy and assessments for ADHDers, autistic individuals and all those with speech, language and communication needs.

My Training and Professional Development

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy (first class honours) and am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a Fully Certified member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). I am a Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) trained clinician and listed on the Meaningful Speech Register, supporting gestalt language processors and their families.

I engage regularly in ongoing professional development that reflects both evidence-based practice and my commitment to neurodiversity-affirming care. This includes webinars and advanced training in gestalt processing, as well as annual updates in safeguarding (children and adults), data protection, health and safety, and equality, diversity and inclusion.

I am ACT-trained (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and hold Level 2 Accreditation from the Association for Psychological Therapies (APT), strengthening my ability to support emotional wellbeing alongside communication needs. I have also completed specialist courses such as Assessing the SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) of Children with SLCN and RCSLT’s Mind Your Words training.

In addition to clinical work, I am currently studying a Master’s in Psychology with Mental Health and Wellbeing at Sheffield Hallam University, deepening my understanding of mental health, identity and behaviour to continue delivering holistic, person-centred therapy.

As recommended by the RCSLT, I complete at least 30 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) each year to ensure my practice remains reflective, current, and aligned with professional standards.

why lived experience matters

I know first-hand what it’s like to navigate a world not built for neurodivergent minds. That’s why I focus on supporting, not “fixing,” neurodivergent communication. My approach blends personal experience with professional expertise, ensuring therapy is neurodivergent-affirming, inclusive, and intersectional, adapting to each individual’s needs rather than forcing conformity.

(PS: ADHD SLT was named after my own neurodivergent journey!)

What Does a Neurodivergent-Affirming Speech Therapist in Kent Offer?

As a Neurodivergent Speech Therapist in Kent, I focus on strength-based therapy that celebrates neurodiversity. Therapy is tailored to both ADHD and autistic clients, ensuring that each individual gets the right support in a way that works for them.

🌿 Core Principles of My Therapy:

🤝 Collaboration – Therapy should feel safe, not forced.
💪 Strength-Based – We focus on what works for you, not changing who you are.
💫 Pressure-Free – No demands to “act neurotypical” or suppress natural behaviors.

Why I Don’t Use Compliance-Based Approaches

🚫 No ABA. No forced eye contact. No “quiet hands.”

Traditional therapy often focuses on compliance, control, and masking neurodivergent traits, but I don’t believe in that. Instead, my approach respects autonomy, natural communication styles, and self-advocacy.

🌞 What I DO focus on:

💬 Supporting authentic communication.
🌻 Encouraging self-expression in a way that feels comfortable.
❌ Rejecting therapies that cause harm or encourage masking.

This is a key reason why I founded ADHD SLT, to offer therapy that is affirming, empowering, and free from coercion.

How My Neurodivergent Experience Shapes My Work

Being diagnosed with ADHD later in life gave me first-hand insight into navigating the world without adequate support. Growing up undiagnosed meant I often felt misunderstood, a reality that many of my clients share.

💡 This experience fuels my approach:
💙 I create therapy spaces where neurodivergent people feel safe and valued.
🎁 I help clients communicate in ways that work for them, not just what’s expected.
📣 I focus on autonomy and self-advocacy so individuals feel empowered.

What Does It Mean to Be Neurodivergent-Affirming?

☀️ Seeing neurodivergence as an identity, not a set of symptoms to treat.

🌎 Adapting environments to meet the needs of the individual, rather than forcing them to adjust.

🚫 Rejecting interventions that encourage masking. This includes social skills programs that try to stop an ADHD person from fidgeting or push autistic individuals to make eye contact.

📣 Promoting self-advocacy and autonomy.

💖 Using validating language that acknowledges and respects all experiences.

🫶 Encouraging a positive self-identity.
